PROJECT OVERVIEW

Set along Vietnam’s central coast, Four Seasons Resort
The Nam Hai is an expansive property made up of distinct experiences, from dining and wellness to recreation, conservation, and cultural discovery. We were brought on and began the project on property, listening to the teams responsible for bringing those experiences to life and observing how information moved between staff, guests, and environment. What began as a collateral review quickly became a broader exercise in guest communication: creating a more cohesive system that could simplify information, support the resort’s operational needs, and feel naturally integrated into the experience.

THE CHALLENGE

At a resort of this scale, communication needs to work across multiple departments, guest profiles, and languages. Printed materials played an important role for both staff and guests, but over time the volume of individual pieces had created visual and operational complexity. Our challenge was not simply to reduce collateral, but to rethink how information was organized, produced, and encountered—creating greater consistency without compromising the practical needs of the teams using it every day. Just as important was implementation. The system needed
to be considered enough for a five-star environment, yet straightforward enough to produce locally, update efficiently, and maintain over time.

OUR APPROACH

We approached the resort as an ecosystem rather than a series of isolated deliverables. By mapping guest journeys and looking at when, where, and why information was needed, we could identify more intuitive points of communication and establish a clearer hierarchy across the property. The guiding principle was simplicity: reduce what was unnecessary, give each piece a defined purpose, and allow the design to work in harmony with the calm, considered character of The Nam Hai itself.

MATERIALITY AS PART OF THE SYSTEM

Drawing from Vietnamese textile and print traditions, we developed a custom floral pattern that could move between paper and fabric applications, creating another layer of continuity across the resort. Natural papers, linen, and wood introduced tactility while keeping the palette grounded, quiet, and considered.

The lotus became another recurring influence. Its symmetry and sacred geometry informed not only the visual language, but the physical form of certain pieces—translated through shaped edges, die-cuts, and subtle details that mirrored the form of its petals. Together, material, pattern, and form were treated as part of the same system, creating moments of craft that felt balanced, purposeful, and deeply connected to place.

building a visual
language from place

To give the system warmth and distinction, we created a custom bank of illustrations inspired by Vietnamese art, folklore, flora, and everyday life. Working across AI-assisted image making, collage, and refinement, we developed a flexible illustration language that could expand across the resort’s many categories while retaining a consistent point of view. Botanical forms, cultural references, objects, and moments of discovery became a visual vocabulary the team could draw from across guest communications.

Rather than relying on generic hospitality imagery, the illustrations helped root the system more deeply in place—bringing character and storytelling to even the most functional pieces of information.

mapping the experience

For a property with so many destinations within it, the resort map became both a functional tool and an opportunity to bring the visual system together.
We reimagined it in the same illustrative language as the wider collateral, transforming a traditionally informational piece into something more tactile and engaging. The map balances clarity with character, helping guests understand the scale of the property while encouraging exploration across its restaurants, pools, wellness spaces, and cultural experiences.

outcome

The result is a collateral system designed around how The Nam Hai actually operates. By bringing strategy, guest journeys, information design, illustration, materiality, and production into one framework, we created a more cohesive way for the resort to communicate across departments and touchpoints. The system gives guests greater clarity without adding noise, while giving internal teams the flexibility to adapt information as programmes and needs evolve. What began as a review of individual pieces became a broader design methodology—one built to preserve simplicity, strengthen consistency, and support the experience over time.
